Review of Time Bandits (1981) by Will K — 04 Apr 2008
Perhaps one of Terry Gilliam's most unadulterated films. It's scenes and transitions are completely dream-like (i.e., somewhat random), but they mask a plethora of deeper, caricatured ideas about good vs. evil in real life and in film. It's absurdist realism meets dark comedy.
This movie's humor is not for everyone, and requires a [very] healthy suspension of disbelief. But if you can get past that, it's really quite deep. Kids probably have an easier time with that process than adults.
