Review of Time Bandits (1981) by Kevin P — 03 Nov 2008
This family adventure is full of Monty Python spirit - in cast, writing, and conception. The fantastic reality of the film is definitely done in a way that could only have been done in the '80s - far from what we see today in terms of surreality and atmosphere.
It feels like a strong tribute to old children's fantasy series in many ways, and it's got a hell of an ensemble cast. (Plus some great musical support including George Harrison.) As you'd expect from Gilliam, it's a strange, memorable experience.
Impressive as a child, and certainly enjoyable as an adult. Highly recommended. It's a shame we don't see adventure films quite like this made these days.
