Review of Time Bandits (1981) by Mella J — 02 Feb 2011
Once you latch onto a director, it's hard for them to ever wrong you. Terry Gilliam is one of 'em for me, a guy who with each and every work seems lost in his own insane world that lacks logics, physics, and above all reality.
Through a series of youthful interpretations of the root cause to everything from Robin Hood to the Titanic sinking, "Time Bandits" is if nothing else a filmmaker quietly exploring his own absurd creation.
I can't help but think this is what David Lynch had in mind for "Dune". Unlike that movie, Gilliam has crafted with this an '80s definition that's poetic in its fiction, and steers you darker around every corner.
