Review of Tideland (2005) by Tristan P — 30 May 2008
Easily Terry Gilliam's most pretentious and self-indulgent film, and that's really an accomplishment. Of course, Gilliam would suggest that the reason I didn't like TIDELAND was because I didn't GET it... If I had that kind of moxie, I'd bottle it and sell and make millions. No, actually, I'd make a pointless, pompous film and tell everyone who didn't like it that it was their own fault. Yeah, that's what I'd do...
Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Tilly are good in this (no surprises there), but the real revelation of TIDELAND is Jodelle Ferland, who is a gifted actress.
Skip TIDELAND and go watch 12 MONKEYS or FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS again...
