Review of Tideland (2005) by Philip E — 02 Jan 2009
Gilliam piles on the weird - if you think "Fear & Loathing..." was messed up wait til you get a load of this. A perverse Southern gothic descent into the life and fantasies of an odd little girl living in a shack in the American flatlands with her drugged up father, it's very easy to become exasperated with the overdose of ideas and style on display.
But this is still seriously impressive stuff from a director who, thankfully, still refuses to compromise sometimes.
