Review of Tideland (2005) by Juha L — 26 Apr 2009
One of Gilliam's worst. Yes, right there with "The Brothers Grimm". And that's saying a lot. The man is a genius and a brilliant director even without The Pythons. "Brazil", "The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen", "The Fisher King" (propably his best), "Twelve Monkeys" and "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" - hot damn what a winning streak! But lately he's been up to no good and he's just made completely and utter shit.
And oh boy, here's the king turd of the shit-mountain. Once again he's going style over substance and this really is quite a fucking miserable attempt to be shocking and controversial and thought-provoking and what ever.
Visually it's like a Terry Gilliam movie but even that doesn't save this trainwreck. He's trying so hard but there's really no story or anything interesting happening here. Man this was disappointing.
Fuck it. I'm off to wath "The Fisher King" again for the 1 000 000th time. EPIC FAIL.
