Review of Tideland (2005) by Marjolein W — 09 May 2009
This is one of those movies that makes you want to gouge your eyes out at times. It's decently directed, and the little girl in it is adorable and very good, but putting her in the situations that she's placed in, particularly the sexual ones, was a bit much. It's nothing graphic, but it's uncomfortable, especially at the end.
That being said, this movie's biggest sin is that it's boring. I admire it for its ambition, but ultimately, there's nothing really holding any of it together other than a series of bizarre incidents played out in an absurd manner. It's also disgusting at times, particularly any scene where a certain character's dead body is present. Yuck.
It's a mess. A boring, disgusting, occasionally pretty mess. Avoid.
