Review of Tideland (2005) by Shawn-Ray M — 26 May 2010
Before the movie even begins there's a disclaimer by Gilliam telling us that many of us will hate this movie and many will love it. As much as I love Gilliam's work, however, I fall between the two and settle with complete indifference.
I applaud his bravery in tackling such subject matter as is depicted here, but it all felt a little dry for a movie with such bizarre imagery. It's no less a disturbing journey because of it, it just feels really restrained, which isn't a good thing for Gilliam, in my opinion.
