A buddy film which really delivers and is possibly the directors best film.
Eastwood is very good as Thunderbolt a bankrobber with a junior and eager partner in the always excellent Jeff Bridges.
The film is very well put together and its a shame that Cimino would later be known for producing overblown epics when this film is taut and very well written.
George Kennedy is fantastic as the brutish Red Leary ,Eastwoods ex partner who cant Stand Bridges in any shape or form .
Nice work too from Geoffrey lewis as the aimiable Goody.
But this really is about Eastwood and Bridges and the excellent rapport they have on screen by the time the film ends you feel you have become a part of their world and the ending is very poignant.
Quite possibly Ciminos best film and I prefer it to the Deer Hunter.
