Review of Thunderball (1965) by Sean G — 31 Aug 2010
Thunderball is a bit low-key compared to the paint-coating, Fort Knox-invading, gold-melting antics of Goldfinger, but it is undeniably sexier. Claudine Auger and Luciana Paluzzi are both steamy as the consummate imprisoned beauty (Auger's Domino Derval) and femme fatale (Paluzzi's spidery but tantalizing Fiona Volpe).
Adolfo Celli, too, is a remarkably slithery Bond villain as SPECTRE No. 2, Emilio Largo; the conference scene with Joseph Wiseman's obscured Blofeld is chilling. Connery is still supreme as Bond. The Tom Jones theme song is an almost operatic addition to Barry's scoring mastery.
