Review of Thunderball (1965) by Tim S — 01 Dec 2012
Again, as with previous reviews of James Bond films, I am not a connoisseur, let alone a big fan, of this franchise. I'm still working on discovering them all one by one, even though I had scene pieces of them here and there over the years.
I couldn't really tell one from the other, but I was young. Thunderball is probably the most successful and the most iconic film the Bond film franchise. It has the usual Bond pastimes, but it's also the one that seems to have been parodied the most, particularly with the Austin Powers series, among others.
It's also interesting that the man who did the special effects on the film, John Stears, won an Academy Award for his work on the film. It's not often that this series is recognized in that way, so it's a good thing.
In retrospect, it's mostly a good movie, although it does tend to drag in a few areas. Casino Royale, for me, is still my favorite out of the ones that I've seen, and that includes any and all films featuring Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, George Lazenby, Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton.
