Review of Thunderball (1965) by Jordan S — 01 Dec 2012
I am a huge Bond fan, and I truly love each movie for what each one is. That said when I rate Bond movies, I rate them against themselves and not the entire Hollywood movie population.
Thunderball is a good Bond film. Not Connery's best but not his worst either. I felt the direction of the film was a bit off compared to the previous films, a few shots seemed overly long. Domino is a great Bond girl and Connery's acting is still spot on here. The story wasnt as compelling as I wanted it to be. I feel that if Spectre gained control of two atomic bombs they would use them, not ask for diamonds. The only other complaint I have is that the villain never felt threatening to me. Now it may seem like im being very critical of the film but the good still outweighs the bad. The action sequences are shot brilliantly and choreographed well. The climax battle underwater is clever and exciting. If you like Bond movies at all you'll enjoy Thunderball for sure!
