Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Jose P — 24 Aug 2008
Kurosawa rocks. Throne of Blood is a great adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth that keeps all the important story elements and adds action and suspense not seen in the original. Truly one of the greatest Shakespeare adaptations, perhaps topped only by Polanski's take on the same story or Kurosawa's own Ran, an adaptation of King Lear.
As for Throne of Blood, it's brilliantly put together with a host of great scenes and still retains all the power and creepy aesthetic no, some fifty years later. Fantastically acted, it's hard not to like it.
I feel like it could have been a bit longer and add some extra content like Ran was, but as it is, it's still a great movie from perhaps the greatest director ever.
