Review of Three O'Clock High (1987) by Zac M — 15 Apr 2009
A reasonably funny movie about a wimpy geek who upsets the new bully at school. The film is directed by Phil Joanou, not a very notable director in any specific genre and this is one of his earliest projects.
Casey Siemaszko stars as "Jerry Mitchell", a nerdy kid who works for the school newspaper. He is assigned to a piece where he has to find out who the new kid is at school, and while doing an early bit of research he ends up aggravating "Buddy Revell", performed by Richard Tyson.
Jerry is then challenged to a fight by Buddy ,and he spends the entire movie looking for ways to elude the scheduled brawl. It's very entertaining to watch Jerry's disastrous day unfold while he comes up with ill-fated solutions to his never ending problems.
Being an 80's film some of the humor is a little dated, but most of the jokes should be able to translate to the standards of today's audiences. There are a couple plot discrepancies but those faults don't really effect the enjoyment of this film.
For "Three O'clock High" being a fairly unknown comedy that is over Twenty years old, it lends a very acceptable viewing experience.
