Review of Three Monkeys (2008) by Frank P — 20 Nov 2008
This is the quintessential "trashy art-house" movie, in which all moments are prolonged through meticulously composed images and soundtrack. It is tremendously beautiful, indulgent, misogynistic - a quantum leap from Climates.
Ceylan has mastered the digital look almost to perfection. The story offers absolutely no new insight into the human condition but provides enough psychological motivation to justify the many prolonged moments of contemplation.
A new direction? More like a new excuse to immortalize beauty.
