Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Brandon O — 04 Jan 2018
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri holds a clever and thoroughly entertaining balance through its filmmaking techniques. Tone, character, and even performances are a fairly mixed bag here, but the good is very good and ends up outweighing the "eh" (McDormand and Rockwell are especially sensational). Poignant themes of violence, revenge, and justice are explored with succinct subtlety as the film goes on, and they wrap up perfectly with the film's open ending.
Also...did not expect this to be one of the funniest movies of the year - our crowd was laughing on every beat.
