Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Bartek K — 26 Jan 2018
First off, though I liked this movie I didn't love it. The performances and script are excellent, with unexpected turns. It shows the best and worst of human nature and the imperfect beings we are.
While you can see Mildred's anger and grief at her daughter's death, this is demonstrated more in her taking drastic actions and isn't balanced with more vulnerable emotional moments. It is still a touching, as well as brutal, movie but is let down massively in my opinion by the ending.
For me it didn't even feel like an ending, more like the picture cut out and you're still waiting for it. Maybe it was meant to be a clever ending, where we are left to wonder what will happen but it is the wrong choice in my opinion and didn't round off the characters' emotional journeys.
