Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Jess_Hill — 05 Jan 2018
A superb start to the year, this is a a sublime example of the excellence that can be achieved when a brilliant script and phenomenal casting come together to create a film. McDormand is at her most captivating, with an astonishingly moving performance, and the supporting cast are polished and carefully wrought, allowing for a poignant and complex exploration of grief and trauma.
The script is a triumph, and the storyline resists easy resolutions, making for a profoundly satisfying viewing experience free from cliche. A considered soundtrack and steady pacing further enhance a film that will stay with you well after you've left the theatre; an exquisite drama worth supporting at the cinema.
