This Martin McDonagh screenplay is something special: I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that blends acerbic humour with tender emotion. I think it is the best film of 2017 because it boasts the best ensemble cast of the year.
Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson deliver career-best work, but what impressed me more was how well the secondary and tertiary characters were fleshed out. There were no throwaway parts — every single actor or actress were given a showcase moment.
