Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Joey H — 02 Dec 2017
"Three Billboards" is the best film that I have seen this year, and is certainly Martin McDonagh's best work. it's a shame that nobody has seen or even heard of this masterpiece. To me, the best part of the film is it's unpredictability.
As a person who sees over 100 films a year, I am generally able to predict what is about to happen. I did not see a single thing in this movie coming (except one thing). It has an incredible cast including Frances McDormand who plays a woman who has lost her daughter and is always able to come up with a joke on the spot, and Sam Rockwell, playing a dipshit racist mama's-boy cop.
Another thing that I liked about this film is that everybody has their flaws. Even Frances McDormand's character has her bad qualities. Sam Rockwell, the racist cop, even has his good qualities. This film acknowledges the fact that everyone has their good and bad qualities making the characters feel more human.
The film overall is sad, but the last 20 minutes of the movie are especially heartbreaking. I am not going to say what happens because I want people to go see this movie for themselves because I cannot think of a single thing that I did not like about this movie.
"Three Billboards" is the second best film I have seen this year and definitely deserves 5 stars.
