Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Alex C — 21 Nov 2017
This feels like the best Coen Brothers film in years, except it's not theirs! This is a terrific film with excellent performances all around, great pacing, and plenty of character and plot twists to keep one guessing and intrigued throughout the entire film.
Sure, characters get away with things that even within the eccentricity of the film seem a bit far-fetched, and it plays up stereotypes a bit too much to make points, but there aren't many films (or possibly any) that have ever mixed drama, action and comedy this well, so I can forgive a few little imperfections.
While the ensemble worked brilliantly together, Frances McDormand was absolutely stellar. Her facial expressions and way of delivering lines are just the highest level of acting, and even if the film wasn't as incredible as it was, her performance alone would be worth the price of admission.
