Review of Three and Out (2008) by John J — 21 Sep 2008
This film is a slightly above-average comedy with heart. The movie succeeds, despite its banal paint-by-numbers plot and stock characters, due entirely to a riveting conceit that focuses on the unintentionally homicidal life of a subway train operator. Further uplift is provided by the rich irony of a dead man proving himself to be much more alive than a young man who has cloistered himself too much to begin the art of living.
Predictably, the former dies, so that the other can live. While the sentiment is appreciated, the closing scenes are rushed and clumsy. Nevertheless, the "Three and Out" is a reasonable way to kill a couple of hours.
