Review of Threads (1985) by Neil P — 09 May 2012
If you only see one film about the futility of full blown nuclear war ,then makes sure it this one.
Director Mick Jackson and writer Barry Hines give us a graphic and in some parts downright scary account of a full blown nuclear attack on the town of Sheffield.
The film is backed by data giving us the number of casulaties and the results of such an event ,the main thing being Britain would be blasted back to the middle ages with a low population and radiation commanding the weather.
The attack is terryfying in its realistic apporoach and what follows it are some of the grimest scenes ever comitted to TV or cinema.
The sight of survivors eating raw meat and fighting over food lingers long in the mind and the films ultimate message is that their ar no winners in a nuclear war.
Grim stuff then but a better advert for less nuclear arms you will never see.
