Nominated for several Oscars in the departments of art direction, music and costumes with Elmer Bernstein winning Best Original Music Score, this romantic musical is a swell quintessence of its genre. But oh, pook! It is also excessively Looney Tunes frivolous, obscenely caricaturing Chinese and thoroughly overrated.
