Review of Thoroughbreds (2018) by Anthony S — 09 Jun 2018
Unlike "Hereditary", this film pulls through to the end. It also carries a smartness and wit that many slow-burn horrors don't possess, and, Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy both pull it off brilliantly! And, lets not forget to glorify the late Anton Yelchin who also brilliantly provided a third-wheel, comic panache to the story.
The director's choice to allow sounds to tell the story while allowing the camera to stagnantly hang on something else was appropriately effective for this film's pov and pace.
This chapter into teen nihilism and sociopathic tendencies to throw empathy out the window is a dark, satirical treat!
