Review of Thor (2011) by Chris J — 04 Nov 2013
Visually this film is FUCKING AMAZING. Story wise? Not bad either. It takes a little to get going but once it does it's a great film with some nice humor and interesting homages to Greek mythology. I wouldn't say this is my FAVORITE marvel character but it is a good one. IDK why but I always thought Thor seemed...out of place for Marvel he seemed more like he would fit better in DC Marvel's characters, Although some what exaggerated, always could work well in a real world Idea even if they didn't have super powers. THor..not so much.
That aside the film is great. It has a great cast of actors, from Rene Russo(who has always been a semi Crush of mine since Lethal Weapon 3) to Anthony Hopkins(who really fits the role) the cast is well rounded and the actors are well chosen. I loved the addition of the humor in the film it was a nice thing to see and it also kept the film enjoyable, almost a little more enjoyable then Captain America and it also seemed to move a little faster then Captain America,it was still slowish but not nearly as slow as CA, But the slow pace was easily replaced by the stunning visuals. I've never seen a film that has captivated me so much visually and at the same time had an interesting and fun story. Usually a film will have one or the other but not very often be able to have both for me. I haven't seen a film like this since the LOTR Trilogy.
The story is pretty simple,As most of the good films are, It's a story of the mighty Thor(god of Thunder) who is banished of all his powers and sent to Earth while there he must try and regain them and at the same time stop his evil brother from destroying the universe. It's a pretty straight forward film but..it works. You can easily sit down and watch this and enjoy the film and not worry really about what just happened or missing something and being confused.GREAT.
All in all this is DEF> the most..STUNNING film Marvel has put out, visually speaking, The story is a little ho hum but it's still entertaining and the acting is solid,Chris Hensworth is a pretty wicked Thor and his humour is a nice touch, and the addition of two veteran actors/actress,Anthony Hopkins and Rene Russo, make the cast nicely rounded with new and old faces.
As I said the only real complainant I have with the film is the story. It's still entertaining and funny but it also seems..ho-humish it's not really original yet its borring its just something you've seen lots of times before so it's not really new. BUT none of this really ruins the film,at least for me, I was still entertained by so many other things that in the end I didn't care about the story's premises that much and instead just wanted to sit down and enjoy a film. This film did just that. It delivered a fun action packed film with good laughs and made me feel glad that I had seen this..Next up..Avengers. BUT I will admit over time of watching this Thor has become my favorite Pre Avengers film(Avengers is my favourite then this and Iron men 1 &2) just because IDK why.
