Review of Thor (2011) by James S — 03 Aug 2014
It is no secret of mine that Marvel adventures aren't exactly my favorite genre, however I was particularly disappointed with what 'Thor' had to offer. Far from an epic adventure that it promised, what we instead got was an underwhelming blockbuster flop.
Despite some films doing it well; namely Iron Man, those scenes where our lead is significantly normal and powerless are immensely boring and clichy. This could be overlooked, were the majority of the film not being made up by them.
A forced, weak love relationship is stereo-typically built, although conveys no real weight or meaning. The action sequences; whilst visually intriguing, are nothing extraordinary, instead reverting back to classic fight moves and perhaps the most overused finale of all time.
The threat of the frost giants was also disappointing, as they quickly seemed to conveniently vanish. Along with others, these factors combined to make this a particularly tiresome watch.
