Review of Thor (2011) by David L — 08 Feb 2016
Yet another marvel hero instalment that hits the big screen, this one a little less cartoony than the others, but still quite fun. The concept surrounds the title character being banished to earth as punishment for his hot headedness and irrational thinking, with Thor soon developing a relationship with earthlings that help train him to be more moral and worthy of being a successor to his fathers throne.
Little does he know that his brother has other ideas as the two soon end up enemies in a bid to have control over their own kingdom of Asgard. It's a simple enough plot, but made a little confusing by the manner in which it is portrayed.
Despite being mildly humorous in places, there is a somewhat serious vibe about this movie that is a contrast to the other productions from this comic book style. The fact it is different makes it stand out a bit but I don't feel the lead characters are particularly unique or have anything about them that makes them memorable, whether it be a special power, a uniform, or a personality trait.
They're all distinctly average, yet have somehow proceeded to make a relatively engaging film - perhaps credit has to go to the cast on that one. As a result, I'm not immediately desperate to watch the sequel but know I'll be content to sit through it when I eventually do.
In the meantime, I'll no doubt watch several more uplifting marvel hero spectacles to prepare for what could potentially be another monotone production.
