Review of Thor (2011) by Stewart H — 19 Oct 2013
The first Thor movie is just solid entertainment. A nice balance of action, romance and humor as the god of thunder is stripped of his power and banished to Earth for basically being a war mongering moron. These events in his life though are all carefully orchestrated by his adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Loki has some pretty severe identity problems, as well as daddy issues. Which actually had me questioning Odin's (Anthony Hopkins) parenting skills since both his son's essentially were the cause for mass destruction and loss of life on not one, or two, but three planets!
Thor is solidly made, acted and written. Chris Hemsworth makes for a believable god of thunder, but it's Tom Hiddleston who really stands out playing his brother Loki. There are some nice moments of humor. The visual effects are great, but I found the pace of the action sequences a little off, and they never really come to life effectively.
