Review of Thor (2011) by Blake R — 03 Jun 2015
One of the best superhero films I've seen. Even though it's part of Marvel's "mega-franchise", it works just as well as a stand-alone movie. I really admire the movie's universe-building and mythology.
The worlds (and characters) of both Asgard and Earth are well-balanced, with neither overwhelming the other. Loki's a pretty good villain; it's easy to see why audiences took to him so quickly.
Thor himself has a really great character arc and his romance with Jane is very sweet and believable. To conclude, "Thor" has the right blend of both the fantastical and realistic, which is exactly what a high-concept story should have.
