Review of This Sporting Life (1963) by Mathieu C — 18 Nov 2007
This film so well contrasts the brutal lifestyle of a rugby player with his sensitive side that just can't seem to find a place in his home. Most people talk about how great Harris is, but the film wouldn't be nearly as great as it is if it wern't for Rachel Roberts.
She perfectly plays a woman who has isolated herself emotionally from the rest of the world. She displays some signs of love for Harris, which is what keeps his hopes up for the suration of the film. It would be a sin to not mention how increadible the actual Rugby scenes are, one comes away from them with a sense of brutality and the fact that this man cannot do this forever.
