Review of This Sporting Life (1963) by Lorna D — 21 Sep 2009
Iâ??ve only known Richard Harris as the veteran thespian and Iâ??ve never seen him as a young man until I saw this movie. He plays a very unlikeable character; one that is full of anger and insecurities.
He desperately wants to love and to be loved in return. He feels that he is misunderstood by those around him and therefore treats most of them with contempt. It is no wonder then that it is among children where he feels most secure and comfortable.
Richard Harris gives such a compelling performance; very gritty and realistic and you will wince as you witness a man coming apart...
