Review of This Is England (2007) by Jack S — 23 Nov 2008
Really captures the bleakness of lower-middle-class England, and the skinhead culture that had even reached the girl whose locker was next to mine in 7th grade. (If only she knew I was a Clash fan!) Twelve-yr-old Shaun searches for a father figure among some friendly 2-Tone types, but is soon seduced by more radical forces.
News footage places it all in the context of Thatcherism and the Falkland Islands war.
