Review of This Is England (2007) by Cale W — 18 Dec 2008
Characterization, acting and dialogue are super. The film feels unscripted and uncinematic in many sequences, creating a realistic and spontaneous tone. There are a couple of heavy-handed montages, and the final resolution seems trivial.
Very interesting theme that ideologies, even horrid ideologies, are largely the result of social conditions, personal and impersonal. Well worth seeing.
