Review of This Is England (2007) by Angela L — 26 Dec 2010
Great movie about English skinhead culture, centering on a lonely 12-year-old boy whose father died in the Falklands War who is taken in by a group of local skinheads. The film does a great job of showcasing the two different sects of skinheads - one violently racist/nationalistic and the other non-racist and more interested in fashion and music than getting into fights.
It's also interesting from the perspective of a Smiths fan, as it is set in 1983 and showcases the depressed, Maggie Thatcher-cursed, increasingly irrelevant England that spawned The Smiths.
