Review of This Gun for Hire (1942) by Michael H — 23 Jun 2009
Surprisingly good; the killer-for-hire with a personal code who takes revenge on the men who wronged him is pretty tired by today's standards, but this early example of the trope does it very well, owing to Ladd's stone cold characterization of the killer.
The bit about war profiteering is also interesting and atypical.
