Review of This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) by Nathan E — 18 May 2012
Director Kirby Dick entertainingly examines the inner workings of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the organization responsible for rating movies. It's an extremely secretive group that has positioned itself as the gatekeeper between filmmakers and traditional distribution.
Using a cheeky combination of interviews, archival footage and private investigators, Dick not only teaches us of the MPAA's history, but shows how its industry connections and intimidation tactics leave storytellers (independent filmmakers) virtually helpless under its rulings.
