Review of This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) by Emily D — 13 Oct 2013
What I liked about this film is all the new content I learned from viewing it. I had no idea the MPAA ratings system was as corrupt as it is and watching this film just made me more and more angry at America. Why do we have to control everything? Why are we so fucking uptight? Why are we always censoring everything!! ARGH!
But the filmmaker, Kirby Dick doesn't get angry, even when he's talking with the jerks at the MPAA. The movie compares films that have been rated NC-17 as opposed to R rated movies and the hypocrisy of it all. He speaks with filmmakers who dealt with the "system" during their filmmaking process and takes us on a wild goose chase to reveal the raters, since their identity is kept secret.
I enjoyed this movie, there were a few times where it felt long but the best part comes at the end when he submits this film to the MPAA for a rating.
