Review of This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) by Scott R — 12 Oct 2012
The huge potential that this movie had to change the ratings system was undermined by the fact that they chose to include the controversial clips from all the movies. It forced the MPAA to give them an NC17 rating despite all the clips were put in a humorous context. It was also undermined by their unprofessional approach. They also included many extremists, but it may have been hard to have included others with more credibility who do not wish to push the envelope in fear of the consequences.
The most revealing part of the movie was the appeals board members, who were all film executives and two clergy members. That was clear bias, but perhaps it is an effective check and balance to the original raters who were composed of ordinary family people.
In the end it does manage to show that the MPAA's rating system is not clear and transparent like it should be if it is an American institution.
