Review of This Christmas (2007) by Jake P — 28 Nov 2008
This Christmas reminded me a lot of Soul Food, only with singing.
It's the story of Christmas time with the Whitfield family. All the family issues and drama that make the Holidays what they are. It was a cute story, I enjoyed it.
I have liked Loretta Devine since Waiting To Exhale, so I was happy to see her as MaDere. I also really like Regina King, she is a great actress. She was perfect as Lisa. When she sprayed the bathroom floor with baby oil, so her lying cheating husband would fall, and then whipped him with his own belt, I thought I was going to pee my pants. I was literally laughing out loud at that. That was great.
Chris Brown has a great voice, so I was happy to hear him sing. I was pleased to hear him sing " Try a little tenderness", in this film. I think Otis Redding is amazing, and that is by far my favorite of his songs.
This Christmas is a feel good Christmas movie. It even makes the chaos and dysfunction of family life seem normal.
