Review of Thinner (1996) by Jesse K — 22 Feb 2015
Aside from the atrocious performances, mean spirited vibe, cynical plotting, and downright moronic twist, Stephen King's Thinner works best as a comedy, a really bad and unfunny comedy about a gypsy who curses an obese lawyer.
Billy Halleck manages to get himself out of trouble after running over an old gypsy woman. Her father is unsatisfied with the outcome, so he places a curse on Billy. Billy starts to realize that losing weight at a rapid rate can be terrifying.
Some of his colleagues start to feel the affects that may kill them. Thinner then takes a twisted turn into some unnecessary turns from the possibility of an unfaithful wife to the mafia. Joe Mantegna plays the mob boss who decides to help out Billy.
Mantegna, who plays Fat Tony on the Simpsons, is definitely the most entertaining character here. This film is fat on crap.
