Review of Things We Lost in the Fire (2007) by Andy P — 08 May 2010
Good actors. Susanne Bier also uses interesting shots to convey the character's feelings and there is a lot of beautiful imagery. For some reason though this is what kept me from really opening up to the movie.
The story is supposed to be all realistic and rough, right in your face, with flawed characters and raw emotions. At one point a character asks, Do you ever feel like you are in a movie? And I thought it was funny she said that, because that's what the movie feels like, a movie.
It's art, yes, and that's nice but it somehow doesn't mix successfully with the story.
