Review of Things We Lost in the Fire (2007) by Susan L — 03 Jan 2009
Yes, this movie was sad - it has to be - it's about unexpectedly losing a spouse in a senseless act of violence... but the performance that Halle Berry gives was top notch and very moving. My husband usually hates "depressing" movies, but he even said he liked this one.
(And not just because of Halle) Benicio was well-chosen for the role of the drug-addicted friend who becomes one of her last remaining ties to her husband's everyday life and habits. It reminded us both that life is fragile and to not take for granted the human bonds we have in our lives - it's so easy to get wrapped up in the material aspect of life that we often forget that the most valuable things are irreplaceable.
