Review of Things to Come (1936) by Tom D — 25 Aug 2007
Unusual adaptation of the book. The costumes and future scenery are superb, the giant machinery in the background is particularly effective.
It never quite works as a story, though and suffers from some forced characterisation and poor dialogue.
As an idea I think Wells got it right the first time, putting it in the form of a history book from the future. It was never really story material.
Nonetheless, it's accuracy and detail in some areas is astonishing. Wells truly was a visionary.
