Review of They Were Expendable (1945) by Sean C — 24 Apr 2009
Considering this came out in 1945, this is a shockingly unglorified look at war. Sure the movie has some patriotic moments and insists that this is the good fight (and it is), but it doesn't flinch from the horror of war the way its contemporaries did.
Still dated, but clearly ahead of its time and emotionally mature.
