They Look Like People is an extremely low-budget and creepy story about a man who receives cryptic messages that the world has been overtaken by aliens, and much like the title says, have assimilated to look like people; which is slowly driving the character mad.

This is the definition of an independent film as it features a no-name cast, slightly cheap-looking camerawork, and an uneven pace that requires patience and imagination to get you through it. It's not a long movie, clocking in at a brisk 76 minutes, and for the majority of the film we are with our two main characters, Wyatt and Christian, as they try to rekindle their long-lost friendship and Wyatt tries to convince himself that he's imagining the whole thing.

The film isn't heavy on scares, and focuses more on atmosphere, which got under my skin fast and culminated in one of the creepiest scenes I've seen in some time! Without spoiling the ending, the film is about more than just an alien take-over and similar to, The Babadook can be interpreted multiple ways, though I will say I was slightly disappointed by the finale.

It's not a GREAT film or one that I would watch again, but for a smaller indie horror on a micro budget, it succeeds in giving you goosebumps with its bleak tone. I also noticed an odd amount of ADR'd dialogue, which caused the speaking volume to constantly fluctuate and found it extremely distracting!
