Review of They Live by Night (1949) by Michael G — 14 Apr 2007
I was expecting a little bit more than a Bonnie and Clyde, jr. And not so much Bonnie either. With the exception of Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train, Farley Granger always had that "deer in the headlights" or scared rodent quality about him.
They Live By Night asks you to believe him as a leading man. I didn't entirely buy it and I think that's a big part of the problem with this movie. I didn't mind it, but I didn't love it.
