Review of They Live by Night (1949) by Dave R — 02 Mar 2009
A noir-ish lovers-on-the-run story: a young guy - bowie -breaks out of prison with 2 other guys; the 3 rob a bank and start spending their money but bowie gets married and wants to settle down; however his partners in crime have different plans.
I recently watched the robert altman adaptation of this story (thieves like us) and I must say I liked this version much better. director nicholas ray uses some interesting shots in this movie considering it was his directorial debut - the aerial shots are quite unusual for a movie made in 1947.
