Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Armand J — 18 Dec 2014
I decided to rewatch this movie since I hadn't seen it in about 5 years and forgot most of it. Easily the best decision I've made in a while. There Will Be Blood really lives up to the hype and critical acclaim that it received.
This movie is an incredible portrait of American Capitalism and is probably one of the most wholly American movies ever made. Also, if you've been putting off watching this movie because it seems like a stark, cold, unrelenting, and long epic of greed and avariciousness from the guy that directed Magnolia, you're on the money.
Except those are very clear reasons of why you need to watch this movie. Do it. Put yourself through this. You won't regret it. Also, the performances cannot go unsaid because Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano give 2 of the best acting performances that a movie has ever had.
Day-Lewis deserved every award he received because his portrayal of a ravenous, materialistic man (Daniel Plainview) is one of the best acting roles I've ever seen in a movie hands down. Paul Thomas Anderson directs a slow burning character study that allows for Day-Lewis to encapsulate the audience from the beginning.
Watch this movie.
