Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Robert I — 21 Jan 2013
There Will Be Blood is a masterful poem of greed and power, and is without a doubt Paul Thomas Anderson's finest masterpiece to date. Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the finest actors of all time, as well as my favorite actor, and as he embodies the character of Daniel Plainview we aren't given a man, we are given a symbol.
Plainview is a symbol of corruption and greed as his mind is slowly swallowed by the idea of money and substance. I have never really payed attention to the history of the oil business, but apparently P.
T. Anderson has and he prove once again to be one of the finest filmmakers in cinema. He brings us into a dark and stubborn world where Daniel slowly rises to power through the oil business. We watch his corruption grow inside of him as his life turns to greed and evil.
Daniel Day-Lewis gives one of the finest performances of acting that I have ever seen, not ever have I seen so much determination and control in a performance, I mean he becomes a completely different man and you will never be able to recognize him.
The true corruption and transitions Lewis makes in the film astounds me as he carries the weight of this masterpiece on his shoulders and gives the performance of a lifetime. Paul Dano plays an incredible performance in this film as well, and although he is in the shadow of Daniel Day-Lewis, he still drives his character into great depth.
His character represents the greed of corporation and as I watched him give sermons to his followers I couldn't help but admire his great performance. Paul Thomas Anderson's brilliant directing is the key that makes this entire film a poem of greatness, and also turns into one of the most well written films I have ever seen.
Anderson always is able to give a story that is grand in scope and is able to dhow the audience a side of a life they can only imagine. Films like Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and this have changed my view of movies forever, and its thanks to the greatness of Anderson.
There Will Be Blood is a story of evil inside every man just waiting to be released by greed, and the combination of Pail Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis perfectly pulls this off.
